In anticipation of the Elizabeth Nourse Gallery (Exact Name TBD)to be constructed in the Clifton Cultural Arts Center’s brand new, 3-story,18,000 sq. ft. arts and cultural center, CCAC presents the inaugural edition of“New Woman”, a juried group exhibition and accompany residency for one selectedartist. This exhibit is designed to follow in the tradition of Elizabeth Nourse(one of the earliest women artists to achieve widespread recognition and a livingas a professional painter) and showcase the artwork of
women artists of Cincinnati and beyond. “New Woman” was a titlebestowed on Nourse and her contemporaries, describing the different andchanging role within the patriarchal society that Nourse encountered. More than a century later, CCAC believes itis still of critical importance to uplift the voices of emerging women artists– including those whose personal identity intersects with other groups who havebeen historically marginalized such as members of the LGBTQIA and BIPOCcommunities – to provide them a platform and accessible professionaldevelopment.
